James Cardinal Hickey Assembly 2974 April 2008 Newsletter.
The James Cardinal Hickey Assembly 2974 meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the St. Brigid Elementary School Grade Seven classroom, formerly the Music Room, 130 W. Larkin St., Midland. Meeting dates for 2008 are: Apr 22, May 27,June 24, July 22, Aug 26, Sep 23, Oct 28, Nov 25 and Dec 23. Please put these on your calendar. Regarding the assembly chalice which will be engraved, the assembly agreed at the last meeting to give the chalice to Fr. Jose Cabrera. Fr. Jose will personally visit "La Milagrosa" Chapel in Chiclayo, Peru on his trip this July and give our chalice to them. The Peruvian chapel, which was build a few years ago, has become a spring of peace for the local neighborhood. Even though there is still extreme poverty in that area, the presence of the Catholic Church, through "La Milagrosa" Chapel, has become a beacon of hope. After Fr. Jose's summer trip to Peru and the chapel, we will get all the details, record the information in our assembly meeting minutes and then provide the information to the deceased member's family. The assembly is actively looking for members to serve as officers. If you are interested, please contact the committee chairman Bill Lake at 989-631-9082 or E-mail him at farmhouse4@chartermi.net. The slate of Assembly officers for the 2008-2009 fraternal year will be discussed at the April 22nd meeting. Following that meeting, the slate of proposed assembly officers will be E-mailed or mailed to all members followed by voting at the next assembly meeting on May 27th. The next Fourth Degree Exemplification is April 26, 2008 at the new Bay City St. Stans Parish Center. Any Fourth Degree member may attend the Exemplification. All you need is a current, signed membership card and you must be dressed in a tux. Color Corps members are encouraged to attend with regalia and act as line guards, door guards, etc. As of this past Tuesday, there are 89 candidates, of which seven will be joining our assembly. This is the first District 3 Exemplification where the new and updated Fourth Degree with new PowerPoint slides will be used. Contact me if you need additional information. The next assembly-sponsored casino bus trip will be Wednesday, May 14th to Little River Casino in Manistee. The cost is $25.00 per person with $15.00 given to each person at the casino. So the real cost is $10.00 person. There will be games and treats on the bus. The bus leaves Midland Meijer at 7:45am, stops at M-30 Park & Ride for any pick ups, stops at McDonalds in Cadillac for lunch and arrives at the casino around 10am. The bus leaves the casino at 4pm, stops for a break on the way home and arrives at M-30 around 6:30pm and Meijer at around 6:50pm. A payment of $25.00 is due by May 3rd to Fred Schaeding (1111 Buckhorn Circle, Sanford, MI 48657, phone (H)-989-687-9086 or phone (cell) 989-430-2474) gives a person a seat on the bus, first come, first serve. Invite your friends and neighbors and let's fill the bus. Upcoming Midland Color Corps events: April 26: 4th Degree Exemplification at Bay City St. Stans Parish Center. May 4: Sanford St. Agnes Church 11am Mass with Color Corps, May Crowning to follow the Mass. May 22-24: State Convention on Machinaw Island. May 29: Opening Ceremony of the Michigan State Special Olympics Summer Games at 7pm at CMU. Sept. 20: 4th Degree Exemplification in Hancock. Any Fourth Degree Sir Knight interested in joining the Color Corps? We are in need of more new members. It is a very rewarding experience serving your Brother Knights and has a camaraderie that you can't get elsewhere.
