James Cardinal Hickey Assembly 2974 January 2008 Newsletter. The James Cardinal Hickey
Assembly 2974 meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the St.
Brigid Elementary School Grade Seven classroom, formerly the Music Room, Our sincerest condolences to
the family of Mike Cauchy. Mike passed
away on December 20, 2007. Thanks to the
Color Corps for their participation in the casket watch. After the passing of Mike
Cauchy, several members of the assembly discussed having the chalice engraved
with the names of the deceased assembly members and purchasing a new chalice. Let’s discuss this at the meeting along with whom
we think the chalice can be donated. The information packets for the
next Fourth Degree Exemplification on April 26, 2008 at Bay City St. Stans are
now available. I will have the information at the meeting. If you have a candidate or you would like to
attend the banquet, please see me at the meeting or contact me. Let’s start signing up those
candidates. I would like to see all the local councils really promote the Fourth
Degree and get a great turn out from our local councils at that Exemp. At the September 2007 meeting,
assembly members agreed to cover the cost of the Exempt. for any of the priests
in the parishes that our assembly covers.
The basic Exemplification cost to a candidate per the Supreme Assembly
is $70 which covers the $12 fee to Supreme, the $15 cost of a baldric and 4th
Degree pin, one banquet ticket and the expense of the degree for the Master (Degree
team expense, etc.). For any candidate
not interested in attending the banquet, the Master will deduct the actual cost
of the banquet (cost not price). That will probably be about $10,
reducing the basic candidate charge to $60.
So, a candidate can take his Fourth Degree for as low as $60.00 plus the
expense of a tux. The tux can be bought,
rented or borrowed. This is probably the
best deal you will find and the degree can’t get much closer than The next assembly-sponsored casino trips are an
overnight trip to the Soo and St. Ignace in May 2008 and a fall color tour to
Little River in Manistee on October 15, 2008.
Nineteen people have already signed up.
Suggest raising the price to $26.00 per person to cover the new state
tax recently approved. Thanks again Fred
and Shirley for a great job. Upcoming Midland Assembly Color Corps events: April 26, 2008: 4th Degree Exemplification at Bay
City St. Stans. May 22-24, 2008: State Convention on Sept. 20, 2008: 4th Degree Exemplification in
Hancock. Any Fourth Degree Sir Knight interested in joining the Color Corps? We are in need of more new members. It is a very rewarding experience serving your Brother Knights and has a camaraderie that you can’t get elsewhere. Please provide any other
fundraiser ideas you may have to Tim Berg (989-891-7768 or 989-662-6804) or
Matt Janson (989-631-6956). We are
always looking for new ideas and would be happy to look into or explore any
opportunities. Call another 4th
Degree member and bring him along to the meeting. In the service of the Lord, Frank S. Cieszlak Faithful Navigator, James
