James Cardinal Hickey Assembly 2974 May 2008 Newsletter.
The James Cardinal Hickey Assembly 2974 meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the St. Brigid Elementary School Grade Seven classroom, formerly the Music Room, 130 W. Larkin St., Midland. Meeting dates for 2008 are: May 27, June 24, July 22, Aug 26, Sep 23, Oct 28, Nov 25 and Dec 23. Please put these on your calendar.
I would like to personally thank all assembly members that sponsored candidates for the recent Fourth Degree and that participated in the Exemplification at Bay City St. Stans on April 26, 2008. For this Exemplification, our assembly brought in the highest percentage (140%) of membership (assembly quota is 10% of current membership) by bringing in seven new Sir Knights. In doing this, our assembly was presented with an award by Master Jim Rich, a wooden case enclosed American Flag flown over the Twin Towers site. Congratulations to our new Sir Knights and their Ladies and welcome to our assembly. The new members are Don Fortier and Scott Roth from the Sanford Council, Kevin Collins and Frank Gerace from St. Brigid Council, Gregg Zank from Council 2141, Mark Larsen from Blessed Sacrament council and Ty Traxler from St. Stans Council.
The most recent assembly-sponsored casino bus trip was Wednesday, May 14th to Little River Casino in Manistee. For a person cost of $25.00 to ride the bus, 49 people each got $23.00 at the casino for seniors day. So the real cost was $2.00 per person. All reportedly had a good trip and a good time. Thirty one of those on the trip already signed up for the next assembly-sponsored casino bus trip to Little River Casino in Manistee scheduled for October 15th. Fred will be checking to see if there is sufficient interest in hosting another assembly-sponsored casino bus trip sometime between now and October. A big thanks goes to Fred and his wife for running these bus trips on behalf of our assembly. They bake all the cookies and plan all the games and entertainment. They need more support from our assembly members for these trips to continue to be a success. Please take the fliers that Fred provides and get them into the local area church bulletins and posted on local billboards. Let us do everything that we can do to help support and promote these bus trips as the proceeds go directly into our assembly treasury. Continue to invite your friends and neighbors and lets fill the bus.
Thanks to all the Color Corps members that participated at the ordination of either the new priests, new deacons or both. Bishop Carlson and the priests appreciated all of the Color Corps members in regalia.

Any Fourth Degree Sir Knight interested in joining the Color Corps? We are in need of more new members. It is a very rewarding experience serving your Brother Knights and has a camaraderie that you can't get elsewhere.
