Upcoming meetings

The James Cardinal Hickey Assembly 2974 meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the St. Brigid Elementary School Grade Seven classroom, formerly the Music Room, 130 W. Larkin St., Midland.  Remaining meeting dates for 2008 are: Oct 28, Nov 25 and Dec 23.  Please put these on your calendar.

 

Regalia

Regalia was passed out at the August meeting.  One more member, Frank Gerace has decided to order a set for him.

 

Not yet a member of the 4th Degree?

The next Fourth Degree Exemplification is September 20th in Hancock.  Frank Cieszlak or Matt Janson has information packets for anyone who is interested in attending or for candidates.  Lets start talking with our Third Degree Brother Knights and encourage them to take their Fourth Degree and become a member of our Patriotic Order.  Only 17% of all Knights have taken all four degrees.  Deadline for forms is Sept. 1.  We must have form 4s before the next meeting so we can vote on them.  Jack Sabourin from the Sanford council is joining the 4th at this exemplification.

 

Color Corps Needs a Few Good Men
Any Fourth Degree Sir Knight interested in joining the Color Corps?  We are in need of more new members.  Dick Plude, Chuck Zemanek, Fred Lyon and Fred Schaeding joined the CC at the June meeting, and Frank Gerace decided to join at the August meeting.  It is a very rewarding experience serving your Brother Knights and has a camaraderie that you can't get elsewhere.  NOTE:  THERE WILL BE A PRACTICE ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 AT 6:30 PM.

 

Fundraiser Ideas
Please provide any other fundraiser ideas you may have to Tim Berg (989-450-2582 or 989-662-6804) or Matt Janson (989-631-6956).  We are always looking for new ideas and would be happy to look into or explore any opportunities.  Some members would like to see us drop the casino trips.

 

Note on the Installation of Officers
For those officers who are married or have significant others, please ask them to attend the installation of officers so they can place the jewel around your necks.  Date and time will be announced.

A note on Casino Trips

The next assembly-sponsored casino bus trip to Little River Casino in Manistee will be on Wednesday, October 15^th.  Thirty-one people from the May trip have already signed up for the October 15^th trip.  The cost for it is $28.00 with a return of $18.00 at the casino.  The trip leaves Midland Meijer at 7:45 AM, stops for a pick-up at M-30 Park & Ride at 7:50 AM and stops at Cadillac McDonald's for 15 minutes before arriving at the casino.  The bus leaves Manistee at 4 PM, stops at McDonald's for a break and arrives at M-30 at around 6:30 PM before finally reaching Midland Meijer at around 6:35 PM.  The $28.00 is due by October 6^th.  To reserve a seat or check on openings call Fred Schaeding at 989-687-9086 or 989-430-2474.  Make checks payable to Fred and mail to 1111 Buckhorn Circle, Sanford, MI  48657.  Bring your driver's license and player's card.  Fred and Shirley need more support from our assembly members for these trips to continue to be a success.  Please take the fliers that Fred provides and get them into the local area church bulletins and posted on local billboards.  Let us do everything that we can do to help support and promote these bus trips as the proceeds go directly into our assembly treasury.  Invite your friends and neighbors and let's fill the bus.  Great time for a color tour.

 

Good of the Order

Please pray for Cheryl Collins, wife of SK Kevin Collins and daughter of FN Matt Janson who had back surgery on August 20.  Also for Fran Lyon, wife of SK Fred Lyon and for SK Irv Potts who had surgery on September 15, and for SK Robert Siegel who passed away on September 16.
